Had dinner with family last night at UPPER WEST. Simply put, extremely impressed. The space is inviting and relax. but very classy. The staff and service fantastic. The food fabulous too. To top it off the menu was not pricy at all. I found it to very reasonable. I look forward to going back for their Happy Hour, especially on Monday’s because Happy Hour is all night long. Tuesdays all bottles of wine are half off. We went here on a recommendation of a friend and now I know why she recommended the UPPER WEST to us. It was great.
Upper West is a trendy restaurant in my opinion. The furniture is sleek and I absolutely adored the lights above our heads. Ample sunlight enters the room and I suggest the patio (gorgeous in my opinion and you’ll most likely have to reserve) We arrived around 6:00 pm and my group was a group of 8, not a small group. Since I was unsure whether or not they had reserved most of the restaurant, I made sure to check in with the hostess beforehand if they could accommodate our entire group. The hostess was awesome. She initially sat us down in a corner of the restaurant, but since not everyone fit, she gave us a different table. The only downside was that we would have had to leave by 7:30, but when it came to that time, they didn’t mind. In fact, we were in more of a hurry than they were and we were told “take your time”. With the time limit in mind, we all ordered more-or-less quickly. The waitress, Jackie (I’m hoping that’s how her name is spelled) was friendly and did her job very well. – waters and my ice tea were refilled exactly on point – all the food arrived at once – food looked, smelled, and tasted amazing. Can’t speak for everyone, but I thoroughly enjoyed my crab-cake sandwich (The Giselle) and the filet mignon (my friend’s) was perfect. – all empty dishes were immediately cleaned out by the busboys – They were always attentive, asking if anyone needed anything else. – Bathrooms are clean. I’m not sure about the men’s, but the women’s bathroom looks like there is only one stall, but there’s actually two. Other than that, the reason for me giving a five-star is not only the way that everyone treated us– made us feel welcome, was friendly, attentive — but I especially appreciated it when they voiced to us that they were grateful that we were so friendly as well. A little kindness goes a long way in my opinion, and when that kindness is reciprocated, it gives you the most wonderful feeling. And that is how I will always remember this place. Thank you Upper West! Job well done
We came here for my best friend’s birthday dinner on a Saturday evening and at first we thought this was going to be one of those pretentious restaurants in Santa Monica, where everyone thinks they’re a celebrity. We were pleasantly surprised that it was more casual and laid back than it appears on their website. It was VERY crowded, not an empty seat in the house, even the lounge where people waited for their table was crowded. So, reservations are a MUST, especially for a large crowd that we had, we had about 15 people in our group. What was weird is that they served half of our party their food, and the other half had to wait for theirs for another 15 minutes. So we were staring at each other, trying to get signals from the others if it was okay for us to dig in as some of them were starving. We were all friends there so we all ended up sharing our plates while we waited for the others’ meals to arrive. We weren’t very hungry when we came for dinner, but still ordered the pork belly for my husband and I to share. Should’ve ordered TWO because it was so dang delicious we couldn’t get enough of it. Gladly, I wore a stretchy skirt that night. It was slightly sweet and fatty. For desert, I ordered the blueberry cheesecake ice cream. I’ve made this type of ice cream myself at home, mine’s better (of course), but this one’s pretty good. I wish it was slightly creamier and I wish I could’ve tasted the cheesecake more. My husband ordered the peanut butter cheesecake…with bacon whipped cream. Bacon, cheesecake, peanut butter: why are they not major food groups yet? The bacon cut through the sweetness and gave a little more texture. Hubby now thinks I can replicate the recipe at home. Cocktails are on the pricey side. About $8-12 a drink. We had several drinks that evening, so that added up fast. It’s a far drive for me, coming from Orange County, but I see myself coming back here again.
New to town and checked out Upper West this week – great vibe, delicious drinks and food. I ordered the ahi tuna tacos and it was amazing, my friend ordered the short rib and it was fall off the bone perfection. Bottom line, I will definitely return. Side note, overheard some people talking about how the restaurant recently placed a hilarious ad rooting for the wrong team in LA. Being a Chicago native and Bulls fan, it didn’t affect my experience but regardless who you root for in LA – this is a must try!
Can’t believe I haven’t reviewed Upper West yet! I can’t say enough about this restaurant and Nick the chef. My husband and I have been here numerous times for date nights, happy hour and with large groups. The restaurant is great for all occasions. They also have an amazing happy hour. We have had everything on the menu and all of it is amazing. Its one of those restaurants where you must try everything. They also have a full bar. If you want to beat the crowd go around 5pm. In the evening the lights get dim, the candles are on and its a perfect ambiance. You must try this place. Promise you won’t be disappointed! Thank you Nick for a great food experience!
What a great spot for Happy Hour with great drinks (good wine selection, and cocktails) and tasty food! The hostess, Jackie, was amazing! She completely accommodated me and my neediness! Jackie let me plug in and work before my customer arrived for a celebration happy hour at Upper West. If Jackie worked for me, she would get a raise…. she truly understands the meaning of customer service! Check out Upper West for Happy Hour or dinner if you want to have wonderful service and libations 🙂 Thanks for making my day Jackie and the Upper West staff on Tues. 5/13, you were extremely hospitable and my customer loved your Bourbon selection! -Karin
Upper west has the best food in la!! Taste the barrata!! Actually everything is amazing ! Ask chef nick for a recommendation ! The service is off the hook!!!

Great place to hang out on week day night. The bar set up is so nice and the food is amazing. I tried the steak with Mash potato and the garden salad . The garden salad has this special dressing and I loved it…! I am glad I found this place. I recommend it for big groups or Birthday.
I had a fantastic dining experience coupled with excellent service from Maria. The braised beef was succulent. The lamb crepes could have been an entree. The potato purée with truffles and bacon was rich and satisfying.
